Dragon Quest is a Japanese media franchise created by Armor Project, Bird Studio, and Sugiyama Kobo. The franchise was previously known as Dragon Warrior in North America until 2005. The games are published by Square Enix and have been localized and ported to various Nintendo platforms. The franchise started in 1986 and has since produced eleven main-series games and several spin-offs.
